NMHSCA member coaches are eligible for two national coach of the year awards. The NHSACA & NFHS Coaches Association each present a national coach of the year award. The NMHSCA works with the NMAA in the nomination of New Mexico's coaches for consideration for National Coach of the Year.
It is important to note that each of these organizations use a rubric that is designed to recognize coaches for the historical success rather than a single year.
The NMHSCA also chooses a National Hall of Fame inductee each for the NHSACA National Hall of Fame.
The goals of the NHSACA are:
Our educational focus is dedicated to more than X’s and O’s. We see coaches as leaders – leaders who are role models to America’s youth. We offer graduate college credit programs in Coaching Leadership. Specific Sports Clinics, Educational Links on the NHSACA website, reduced rates for professional publications, as well as others to help you stay current with today’s important issues.
We recognize coaches not just for a season of coaching, but for their “lifetime achievements.” The NHSACA Coach of the Year awards are the most prestigious awards given to high school coaches in America. Some 152 coaches earn the “National Spotlight” each June at our Annual Convention. The NHSACA also recognizes numerous coaches each year during the national convention through induction into the NHSACA National Hall of Fame. The NHSACA provides the Distinguished Service Award
Due to our National scope, we are able to provide many areas of support for our members, including contact with other professionals in high school athletics. We also have a National voice in important issues facing America’s High School Coaches and their athletes.
