The Hall of Honor is the highest award level within the New Mexico High School Coaches Association
The NMHSCA's Distinguished Service Award is presented to a person or persons that are not active coaches. It is awarded for outstanding contributions and dedicated service to high school athletics in our state and to our Coaches Association.
The NMHSCA is affliated with two National Coaches Association Organizations that produce National Coaches of the Year, National Hall of Fame Coaches of the Year as well as regional coaches of the year. The process is generally the same between the two organizations. States submit nominees each year to the national organizations. Those organizations choose one coach per region/section to be the regional/sectional coach of the year. The final national award bestowed upon New Mexico Coaches is the National High School Sports Hall of Fame Award. It is the most prestigious National Award received by New Mexico Coaches. The two organizations are the National High School Athletic Coaches Association and the National Federation Coaches Association.
The NMHSCA initiated the Francis Abeyta Scholarship Program in the fall of 1991. It is an award given to the sons and daughters of coaches who have a minimul of five years membership in the Coaches Association. The award has been named in the memoryo Francis Abeyta who coached at Santa Fe Indian School and was a member of the NMHSCA Board of Director until his untimely death in April of 1996.
