Inaugural North vs. South A/AA Boys All-Star Basketball game in conjunction with the AAA/AAAA Boys All-Star Basketball game.

Inaugural North vs. South (All Classes) All-Star Baseball games in Las Cruces.

            Revived the Steak Fry as a social event at the Annual Coaches School., Gibbs secured corporate sponsors for this event.

The Lions Club discontinued the co-sponsorship of the All-Star Boys Basketball and Football games.  The directing, managing, and coordinating of all aspects of these games became the responsibility of the Executive Secretary.

            Initiated the Hall of Honor Awards program, the pictures/plaques of the Hall of Honor inductees were housed at the University of New Mexico Arena (The Pit) in the Pete McDavid Honor Lounge.

New Mexico High School Coaches Association offered and sponsored the following events and program benefits to its membership:

Ø      An annual state coaches school in Albuquerque, offering instruction in football, basketball, baseball, track & field, wrestling, and athletic training

Ø      An annual North vs. South (all classes) All-Star Boys Basketball and Football games, co-sponsored by the Downtown Lions Club of Albuquerque.  The games were held in conjunction with the annual coaches’ school.

Ø      The selection of an Athletic Director and Coaches of the Year in various sports through membership in the National High School Athletic Coaches Association.  These AD and coaches were the Association’s nominees for Regional and National AD and Coaches of the Year.

Ø      The annual awarding of the Stratton Memorial Scholarship for handicapped students.  Later to be renamed the Stratton/Ledbetter Memorial Scholarship.

Ø      The Association had a membership of 306 in the 1973-1974 membership year.
