The NMHSCA office moves into the NMAA Building
The Annual Coaches Training & Clinic and All-Star week was held in Las Cruces.
1998
NMHSCA offered the NMAA required rules clinics in football, volleyball, and soccer at the Annual Coaches Training & Clinic. Soccer was discontinued after this year for lack of participation.
1997
The All-Star Volleyball matches were moved to be in conjunction with the Coaches Training & Clinic and All-Star week.
By the passage of an emergency referendum the control of the NMAA was removed from the Executive Committee (which was dissolved) and placed under a Board of Directors, made up of Superintendents. From this year through 2002 the NMAA underwent review, revisions, and its governing structure was reorganized.
1996
The NMHSCA and Executive Secretary hosted the annual meeting of the National Organization of Coaches Association Directors (NOCAD) in Albuquerque at the Sheraton Uptown Hotel.
The NMAA Executive Committee approves the establishment of the NMAA Sports Specific Committees.
Inaugural North vs. South A/AA All-Star Baseball games in Albuquerque.
The NMHSCA discontinues its bingo operation

Inaugural North vs. South 6-man All-Star Football game in Portales.
The Board of Directors approves the New Mexico High School Baseball Coaches Association as a branch coaches organization within the NMHSCA

By a referendum vote passed by the New Mexico Activities Association member school, the New Mexico High School Coaches Association was granted a voting position on the NMAA Executive Committee.

The Hall of Honor is moved from the Pete McDavid Honor Lounge in the UNM Arena (The Pit) to the Room of Pride and Honor in the new New Mexico Activities Association Building.
Jeanne Sategna becomes the first woman elected to the Board of Directors. She was from the Northwest Region and coaching volleyball at Bloomfield High School.
1991
Secured a one million dollar liability insurance program that covers each individual as a benefit of membership in the NMHSCA
Inaugural North vs. South A/AA and 6-man All-Star Football game in Roswell.
Initiated the Francis Abeyta Memorial Kickoff Scholarship, this is annually awarded to a daughter and a son of an eligible member of the NMHSCA.
The Annual Coaches School is renamed the Coaches Training & Clinic, and with the respective All-Star games, returns to Albuquerque.
1990
The New Mexico Public Education Department adopted a requirement that athletic coaches shall be licensed. The Coaches School begins offering a Public Education Department approved coaches education program that enables coaches to qualify for the required license.
Initiated the Assistant Coaches of the Year and the Athletic Directors Milestone Awards program.
Inaugural Red vs. Gold All-Star Boys All-Star Soccer matches in Albuquerque. (Note: Matches were discontinued after 1996 for lack of interest on the part of coaches and athletes)
